Junior category winners Catherine Ma and Tiffany Yeung will be featured soloists in The Virtuosi of Tomorrow concerts held Saturday (April 30) at 7:30 p.m. at St. John's United Church, 262 Randall St., and Sunday (May 1) at 3 p.m. at St. Simon's Anglican Church, 1450 Litchfield Rd. The OCO's Concerto Competition honours excellence among emerging musicians in the community. Entrants can compete in two categories: Junior (for those aged 17 years or younger) and Senior (instrumentalists aged 21 years or younger; and vocalists aged 25 years or younger). At this weekend's concerts, Ma will be performing Piano Concerto No. 4 by Ludwig van Beethoven, while Yeung will play Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. "These young soloists will be the next performers to watch in the classical world," stated a media release issued by the OCO. The concert will also feature music from Wolfgang Mozart -- Marriage of Figaro Overture. Tickets cost $30 for adults, $25 (seniors) or $20 (students), while children aged 12 and younger are admitted free.
