The Greater Toronto Services Board has recently issued a draft report that is apparently intended to become the strategic transportation plan for the GTA and Hamilton. While this report contains some useful planning information for those geographic areas it covers, it is noticeably lacking in explaining how the required infrastructure will be financed. In addition, there seems to be limited attention given to the potential role o f the private sector in the trans portation sector. At the time o f writing this article w e are preparing comments on this report which will be presented to the GTSB in public meetings in late April. On March 28th I attended, on behalf o f your Board of Directors, at Oakville Town Council and Halton Regional Council. A s approved by the Board, I spoke in support o f the amalgamation o f East Flamborough by the City o f Burlington. This opportunity had arisen from the restructuring forced on the Hamilton-Wentworth Region by the Provincial Government. Based on our review o f the available information, and having specified certain conditions with regard to future cost sharing, w e had considered this amalgamation to be a one-time opportunity for our region and had recommended approval. Regional Council defeated the motion by a narrow margin. However, at time o f writing, the Ontario Government had not reached a final decision on the fate o f Flamborough and we had written to the Minister responsible to make our opinions heard. In the surveys returned to the Chamber so far this year, over 80% o f respondents say that networking is one o f the most important benefits from their membership in the Chamber o f Commerce. In view o f this, w e have taken steps to upgrade our monthly Business After Hours Events and we have also scheduled a second Business Before Business Event to be held at O tello's banquet Hall on Wednesday, June 7th. See you there! Tired of all the talk & rock on radio? Maybe it's time to listen to the Great Sounds of the Hit Parade on southern Ontario's e tffy 50+ station Executive Vice:President Robert B.
