Artist exhibits at Julia Ristorante Julia, the newest site for the Oakville Arts Council's Artworks program, will open a new show on Saturday, Jan 21. Explorations features pastel works by Sally Jackson, a Sheridan College illustration graduate who applied that training to painting. "Colour is my passion. Soft pastels are my natural medium because they are sensual, visually and physically sat isfying to use, give vivid results very quickly and allow many layers to be applied to rich effect," says Jackson. "It's a versatile and expressive medi um, perfectly suited to the spontaneity, experimentation and intuitive process es which mark my work." Jackson's paintings have been accepted into juried exhibitions every year in southern Ontario since 1994. Most recently, her Rock Painting #19 won the best abstract award at Pastel Artists Canada's 2005 Juried Exhibition. . "Every painting I start is an explo ration, and can go in many directions along the way," says Jackson. "I don't have anything firm in mind when I start a painting, and I work from what presents itself as I go along, intensify ing this, muting that, and the freedom is important to me." Sally Jackson's Explorations runs from Jan. 19 - March 15, and is open to viewing at Ristorante Julia, 312 Lakeshore Rd. East, daily from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. People are free to walk in to see the art work without purchasing a meal.
