West, at 2:30 p.m. "The Halton Peace Network is very honoured and excit ed to be hosting this event with Mr. Elie who brings such a wealth of knowledge about the people of Haiti," said coor dinator Brian Hopkins. "Democracy and constitutional rule was overthrown in Haiti in February 2004 by a coup," said Andrea Pinochet, an organizer with Haiti Solidarity in Vancouver. "The elect ed president of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, was forced into exile at that time. Since then, thousands of his sup porters have been killed, jailed, or forced into exile. Patrick Elie is a voice for the restoration of sovereignty and democracy in Haiti." Elie recently helped establish a political rights organi zation in Haiti called Sant Obsevasyon Sitwayen (Citizens Monitoring Center). It advocates measures to facilitate a return to demo cratic and constitutional rule in Haiti.
