The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday March 4, 2006 - 7 Head shaving kicks off month of fundraising for Cancer Society Oakville Place is celebrating its 25th anniversary in March and is launching a series of events to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. The first of these is Lose Your Locks, a head shaving on Friday March 10, the mail's anniversary date. The head shaving will begin in the Centre Court at 1 p.m., and there will be cake and coffee for spectators. Four people from the Oakville Place management team have challenged the community to participate in this event by shaving their heads in exchange for pledges. "So far the response has been encouraging," said Kim LaRonde, Marketing Director at Oakville Place. "One of the first community members to take up this challenge was Ward 5 Town Councillor Marc Grant. We have also had encouraging responses from the local police and firefighters and have four Oakville Place merchants confirmed." The mall is challenging local resi dents to collect $100 or more in pledges. Anyone who would like to par ticipate can stop by the Oakville Place Guest Services kiosk, register at the desk and pick up pledge sheets. Donations will also be accepted at Guest Services or at the event. The head shaving is one of many events that Oakville Place has created to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society this month. The mall is donating 25 per cent of every gift card sold at Guest Services, on March 11 and 18, and free make overs courtesy of Shoppers Drug Mart and Caryl Baker Visage will be given in exchange for a minimum $5 donation. The make-over schedule is as fol lows: Mar 11, Rimmel and Cover FX; 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., Mar 12, Caryl Baker Visage; 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., Mar 17, Maybelline; 1 - 5 p.m., and Mar 18, L'Oreal; 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Oakville Place is releasing the sec ond in its series of historical Oakville watercolours as a fundraiser. This lim ited edition, numbered print will be available at Centre Court March 24 to March 26 or while supplies last. The first 500 recipients will receive a print signed by the artist, Ann Bartok. Qn March 31, look for Canadian Cancer Society volunteers and Oakville Place staff at the Oakville GO Station selling daffodils.Volunteers from the Canadian Cancer Society will be at the mall from March 31 to April 2, Daffodil Days. Purchasers will receive one bal lot for every bundle of daffodils pur chased to win one of five shopping sprees at Oakville Place, four prizes of $250 each and one $2,500 grand prize.
