ODS presents a set of five plays every year from October to March, with each show individually produced by two local theatre groups: The Oakville Players and West End Studio Theatre. Kicking off the 2016-17 season Wednesday (Oct. 19) will be West End's Funny Money, by Ray Cooney. The farce is about a mild-mannered accountant who accidently picks up the wrong briefcase full of money. "His decision to keep it sparks a frantic game of cat and mouse, hilarious innuendo and cruelly funny turns of fate. The battle to hold onto the money leads to increasingly hysterical situations," stated a media release. To commemorate the opening, ODS has launched a new website, oakvilledrama.ca, featuring details on all its shows, the theatre companies producing the plays and how and where to buy tickets. Running Nov. 9-13 will be the Oakville Players' Gibson and Sons, by Kristen Da Silva. The comedy tells the story of Harry Gibson, who finds his dating life seriously hampered while helping save his and his father's struggling, small-town funeral home. Presented by West End, the musical is about the Johnstone twins who are separated at birth when their mother cannot afford to raise them both. Hanging over the story is a chilling prophecy that twins -- separated at birth -- will die on the day they discover the truth about who they are. Rounding out the season is Picasso at the Lapin Agile, March 8-12, 2017. Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso walk into a bar, and the result is the charming comedy by celebrated writer and actor Steve Martin. A subscription for all five shows costs $125, open only until the closing night of Funny Money (Saturday, Oct 22). Single tickets cost $30 for evening performances and $25 for Sunday matinees. Colours of Love International Concert is a non-profit organization founded by Maggie Habieda of Oakville's Fotografia Boutique. The unique platform aims to showcase the universal language of love through the music of six international artists, according to organizers.
