The Oakville Beaver, Friday March 17, 2006 - 29 Local bowling squad seeks master bantam crown Katrina Choquette, Lucas Picot and Helen DeAdder will represent their zone this weekend in Hamilton, hoping to win the master bantam provincial tournam ent. The team, representing Hopedale Bowl, won its zone recently, averag ing 184 pins over three games. Masters bantam competition fea tures one master bowler (DeAdder) and two bantams. Choquette is 10 years old while Picot is nine. The team beat out bowlers from Georgetown, Mississauga, Streetsville and Oakville in the zone competition, and will face other zone champions from across southern Ontario tom orrow at Sherwood Center. sp o w rrs b r ie f s in late March. At the Ontario Cup last month, Duffy won the overall championship in the juvenile boys division and Sean McAnuff won the overall champi onship in the peewee division. Brothers Graeme and Sean Stewart each earned gold medals at the Ontario Cup for relay races and silver in their respective divisions. Other Ontario Cup medal winners were Ryan Quesnelle, Duffy and Lin. Other provincial championship medal winners included Nicholas Ernest, and McAnuff. Figure skaters show strong Oakville figure skaters enjoyed one of their strongest showings of the year in competition at the 2006 Spring Festival of Skating Invitational. In the Pre-Preliminary round, Emma Neilson finished first followed by Emily Fox in third and Lauren Woodward in fourth. In the Prelim inary round, Alexandra Brown placed first in front of Anjuli Dabydeen, Gabrielle Bernier and Sarah Locke who fin ished second, th ird and fourth respectively. Blades hosting playoff matinee Game 4 of the Provincial Junior A Hockey League West Conference championship series between the Oakville Blades and Hamilton Red Wings will be played tomorrow (Saturday) at 1:30 p.m. at Dominion TVvin Rinks. The rare afternoon game is due to the midget SCTA (South Central Triple-A) championship tournam ent being held this weekend at Dominion TVvin Rinks. The Oakville Speed Skating Club has been enjoying a very successful season and will look to continue that success in upcoming championships. Patrick Duffy and Zachary Lin were both named to Team Ontario after the provincial championships in Strathory, Ontario earlier this month.
