The question is, why are millions going hungry when there is enough food to feed all the peo ple in the world? Last year, 852 million people did not get enough to eat - up 18 million from the 1990s. More than five million chil dren die from hunger each year, one every five seconds. Given the abundance of food in Canada, information on how each of us can respond to world hunger will be discussed ' at a public lecture on Monday, April 10 at 7.30 p.m. at St. John's United Church, 262 Randall St. Speakers are David and Kathryn Mayberry, resource coordinators for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank for Ontario. The Canadian Foodgrains Bank, a partnership of 13 Canadian church agencies, has provided more than 944,000 metric tones of grain to des perate people around the world. The Mayberrys coordinate individu als and churches who work together to raise money to grow crops and distrib ute profits to relieve hunger in desti tute countries. This presentation is the last in a five-part public lecture series organ ized by the Power of One Committee of St. John's United Church. Admission is free. Refreshments will be served.
