Thank you for your message. I appreciate how much you care about the issue and I as sure you Council does, too. I wholly understand the desire to outright block development on this land. This was our goal when the development was first proposed. However, after exploring every option available, our planners, lawyers and expert witnesses told us there was abso lutely no way to legally stop all of the Bronte Green development. (i.e., councils could not "Just say no"). Given this unfortunate reality, we registered dozens of issues with the OMB focused on re stricting the development to what fits for the community and the environment. The developer presented a settlement offer on a confidential basis in which they gave in on all of these issues. Council did not want to risk allowing the OMB to dictate the terms of the develop ment. Voting to reject the settlement would mean a worse outcome for residents and the loss of more greenspace. I hope this clarifies the issue for you. Again, I appreciate that you reached out to your council regarding this issue. You can visit this FAQ page (www.oakville. ca) for more details, and please don't hesi tate to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns. M ayor Rob B urton, Oakville PS. The Province is currently considering a number of OMB reforms that would give resi dents and municipalities a stronger voice on issues like this. If you have the time, do take a look and consider adding your voice to the calls for reform.
