S p o r ts B r ie fs Hornets seven seconds short of shutout Maddy McArthur had her shutout bid snapped with seven seconds left as the Whitby Wolves scored late to earn a 1-1 tie with the Oakville Hornets. McArthur made 27 saves before Whitby scored the tying goal. She made a couple more saves in overtime to finish the game with 29. Jessica Digirlamo had Oakville's goal with four min utes to play in the second period. It was her ninth of the season, the most among all Provincial Women's Hockey League blueliners. The Hornets were 19-2-3 this season heading into a game against the Stoney Creek Sabres on Tuesday, which occurred after the Beaver's press deadline. Oakville's Ben Blacker was named the National Col legiate Hockey Conference's goalie of the week after making a career-high 32 saves Saturday. The freshman goalie for the Western Michigan Broncos finished the week with a 1.39 goals-against average and a .956 save percentage. Blacker stopped 11 of 12 shots in relief in Friday's 5-1 loss to North Dakota. He followed that up by al lowing just one goal in a 3-1 victory to earn a split with the Fighting Hawks on Saturday. He made 21 of his saves in the third period as the Broncos played more than half of the period shorthanded. The win improved Blacker to 3-0 this season with a 2.33 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage. It is the second time Blacker has be honoured by the NCHC this season. He earned the freshman-ofthe-week award in the opening week of the season.
