According to a tweet from Flalton police, the teens were stranded on the east side of the Sixteen Mile Creek after falliing into the waterway. Oakville Fire Department' s Deputy Fire Chief Andy Glynn said the fire service received a call at 10:45 a.m. that the youths -- believed to be in their teens -- were stuck on the creek bank and six Oakville Fire units were dispatched to the scene. Oakville Fire was prepared to do a highangle rescue. Upon reaching the boys, firefighters took them to police officers waiting on the west side of the creek and the youths were checked by paramedics. Police said they were being examined for possible hypothermia. The youths were then taken from the scene by ambulance. Lions Valley Park is located at f f50 Dundas St., just west of Neyagawa Boulevard. The youths were in distress in a location north of the bridge. Firefighters and police remained on site, as did paramedics with Halton EMS until the scene was cleared. Shortly after, Flalton police reported that "at approximately 10:30 a.m. the two teens ages 13 years and 16 years called 9-1-1 to report they had fallen into Sixteen Mile Creek in Lions Valley Park." "The youths were walking along the creek when the younger boy slipped on the creek bank, the older youth came to his assistance, but both boys were swept downstream by the fast-moving waters. The teens were able to reach the west shore and call for help on a cell phone, but were stranded and cold on the west side of the creek," stated a police release. Oakville Fire and police were able to safely reach the boys using cold weather equipment. The Oakville youths did not sustain any significant injuries, but suffered from minor exposure. Both teens were taken to hospital as a precaution in the company of their parents, w ho attended the scene, according to police officers.
