Com ing off a 5-1 win over the Brampton Jr. Canadettes last Sunday, the Hornets lead the PW HL standings with a 25-3-4-0 record for 54 points, seven points up on secondplace Nepean in the 20-team league. The Hornets scored five straight goals in the win over Brampton, which opened the scoring 31 seconds in with its only goal of the game. Oakville's Brooke Jovanovich tied it up later in the first period before Em m a Maltais and Kayla Fillier scored second-period goals and Jessica Digirolam o and Maddie Sisokin added third-period goals. The first and last goals by the Hornets came on the power play. M addy McArthur w asn't called on often in the Oakville net, but she stopped 18 of the 19 shots sent her way. Saturday's gam e is at Jo sh u a's Creek Are nas at 3:30 p.m. The Hornets are also in action on Sunday, Feb. 5, visiting Stoney Creek to play the Sa bres at 7:35 p.m. W E E K L Y H O N O U R S Double-doubles help Steinauer earn laurels Oakville's Kiana Steinauer earned a pair of basketball honours after re cording the first two double-doubles of her collegiate career. Steinauer w as nam ed the North east-10 Conference rookie of the w eek as well as the Southern Con necticut State University athlete of the week. The Loyola grad recorded her first double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Owls extended their winning streak to three gam es with a 48-43 road victory against As sum ption College. Four days later against Bentley University, Steinauer had 15 points and 16 rebounds as Southern Con necticut State alm ost pulled off a m ajor upset. The Owls led the na tion's 20th ranked team 67-63 with 1:03 to play before Bentley rallied for a 70-67 win. Steinauer is averaging 5.7 points per gam e and ranks second on the Owls with 5.7 rebounds per game. The Owls are 5-9 in conference play and 9-12 overall.
