Kevin Haxell Halton police are seeking public assistance after a woman sustained life-altering injuries after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday (Feb. 1) night while crossing Dundas Street at Neyagawa Boulevard. At 9:30 p.m., the 39-year-old victim was walk ing in the crosswalk, when she was struck. The vehicle left the scene. The woman was rushed to an area trauma cen tre, where she was diagnosed with serious, lifealtering injuries, according to police. The Halton police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is investigating and wants to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision, or was in the area at the time and has a dashboard camera. It' s also encouraging the driver of the in volved vehicle to contact police. "The nature of the collision suggests the in volved driver would be aware they struck a pe destrian," said Sgt. Ryan Snow, CRU supervisor. Suzanne Hansen was going home from the grocery store when she came across the accident scene. She pulled over to assist and saw people with the victim, she told the Oakville Beaver in an email Thursday, Feb. 2. "One male was with her as he was calling 911; another male was trying to direct traffic away from her -- he was actually in the street acting like a crossing guard," said Hansen, who moved her car to block traffic. "She was almost right in the middle of that side of the street." Watching those assisting reflected "humanity and community in a way we don't see when we read a police media release," Hansen said. "An im portant after-reflection of this, to me, was seeing people coming together this way. I think showing the humanity could help make a person reconsid er their choices about not coming forward." Anyone with information to assist police is urged to call 20 Division, Oakville at 905-825 4747, ext. 2205. Tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers, "See something, Hear something, Say something," at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), at www. haltoncrimestoppers.ca, or by texting "TIP201" with your message to 274637 (CRIMES).
