With the case study method, students get real cases to digest and they need to analyze and conclude them. It is great experience that is not always taught in school. Organizers hope to get as many schools as possible to participate in the inaugural Appleby College Business Case Competition. "We have the facilities here to host a sizable competition. It is a great way for students to interact and hone their analytical skills, teamwork skills and presentation skills," said David Suchanek, a business teacher at the Oakville independent secondary school. "With the case study method, students get real cases to digest and they need to analyze and conclude them. It is great experience that is not always taught in school." The competition will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 at Appleby College for students in Grades 9 to 12. Groups of three or four will be given an Ivey case study and have three hours to develop the best solution and prepare a well-rehearsed PowerPoint presentation. Students will present to a panel of judges, who will decide the two finalists, who will present in front of all students. The event will also include lunch and keynote speaker, David Cheesewright, CEO and president of Walmart International. His career spans more than 25 years in the international and retail sectors, including an appointment as lu n c ho rd inner 99 David Suchanek Appleby College CEO of Walmart Canada in 2008. He has three children, two of whom are Appleby alumni. The third is in his final year at the school. "It will be a great day. We have the volunteers and space ready. We would love to have as many schools as possible," Suchanek said. "If you are new to it, you can ju st come and see what it's all about. We hope to make it an annual affair."
