8 Oakville Beaver Weekend Sunday, September 17, 2000 Health Minister officially opens Wellspring Th u rs d a y Elizabeth Witmer, Ontario's minister of health, will officially open Oakville's new Wellspring House on Thursday, Sept. 21st. Wellspring, the new cancer support center for residents of Halton and Peel, has been open to the public since early July and has seen a steady stream of peo ple passing through its brightly lit, spa cious facilities. The project was spearheaded by Mayor Ann Mulvale, a cancer survivor, which resulted in the donations and com munity support to build the centre at 2545 Sixth Line between Glenashton Drive and Dundas Street. Wellspring provides emotional sup port to cancer patients and their loved ones at no charge. Its programs include one-to-one peer support, support groups, creative therapies, yoga, relaxation and meditation, plus a lending library. The official opening will from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wellspring members (cancer patients), volunteers and staff will be available to give tours and answer ques tions. For information, call 257-1988. Decked: An Exhibition of Skate Culture will be on display at the mail's Centre Court on Sunday Sept. 24th, cour tesy of the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Oakville Arts Council. Decked will be on display from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The afternoon art event involving youth from across the GTA and Oakville, and will include multi-media art, video photography, design and graffiti related to the art of skateboarding. Skateboard routines choreographed by dancer Zoja Smutny will be per formed by skaters each half hour to and original soundtrack composed by local artist Terence Dick and performed by young musicians from Toronto and Oakville. There will also be do-it-yourself digi tal skate movie demos by Look! Television's Community Expression Channel.
