Daniel Soares, Krizia Natale, Ethan Zuchkam, Emily Vaillancourt, Maddy Chestnut, and Victoria Blazevic won an Award of E x cellence for acting in the play. The competition took place the last week of February at Burlington Central High School. Fourteen high schools from across Halton took part in the popular drama fes tival. The festival, which is sponsored by Sears Canada, is the longest running high school drama festival in North America. The festival began in 1946 with just three plays, but now has approximately 3 5 0 entries annually. Each school entered a maximum of two shows. Each competing school could per form a previously-published artistic work or an original written piece. The maximum time limit of performance was 50 minutes. Schools compete with the hope of moving up to the regional level. Only three schools from the district level are selected. District hnalists are then invited to one of six regional festivals. Kris Cruz from St. Ignatius of Loyola Cath olic Secondary School won an Award of Merit for acting. Kate Byrne, Matthew Casale, Annie McDougal, Fiona Vandermyden, from T.A. Blakelock High School won an Award of Merit for set design. Drew Werbowski from Garth Webb Sec ondary School won an Award of Merit for acting. Claudia Matas of W hite Oaks Secondary School won an Award of Merit for acting. Cast members Miles Lewis, Ainsley Cro nin, Gabe McKenzie, Paul Cudmore, Dan iel Pascal, Justin Baker Bigausk and Jackson Malone from Chisholm Academy won an Award of Merit for performance. Actors from the Pathway Program at T.A. Blakelock High School won an Award of Mer it for delightful performances despite learn ing and physical challenges. Sawyer Ferreira from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School won an Award of Excellence for playwright. Mira Meikle, Spencer Festerya, Josh Aubin from T.A. Blakelock High School won an Award of Excellence for acting. Jessica Rosales from St. Ignatius of Loyola won an Award of Excellence for singer/actor.
