One of the busiest pedestrian areas is from the Towne Square, crossing Robinson Street, and then moving down George Street to the lake. In recognition of this busy pedestrian area, there was a pedestrian crosswalk on Robin son Street, at George Street. It made it safer for pedestrians going from the Towne Square to the lake. Inexplicably, that pedestrian crosswalk has now been removed. I live at this location and have observed how, after the pedestrian crosswalk was removed, people now try, unassisted, to cross Robinson Street on their way to the lake. Last year, four-way stop signs were installed at the intersection of Robinson and Dunn streets. However, there is far less pedestrian traffic at Dunn Street, than at George Street coming from the busy Towne Square. After cars stop at Dunn Street, westbound drivers speed up making it hazardous for pe destrians trying to cross Robinson precisely at the location of the former crosswalk. The removal of the Robinson Street cross walk is a serious mistake. I urge the Town of Oakville to reinstall it.
