Alumni Centre for Athletics and Student Life was held last week. The 8 0 ,0 0 0 square-foot project is expected to be completed in late fall 2018. It' s the largest construction proj ect in the school' s 106-year history. Appleby students gathered to form a giant AWB at ceremonies preceding the groundbreaking. The centre is named after a 1927 graduate of Appleby, Aubrey Baillie, who established the A.W B. Chari table Foundation in the 1960s. His nephew and namesake and chair of both the A.W B. and Ap pleby College Foundation was on hand for the groundbreaking. "My uncle Aubrey... would be honoured to have his name asso ciated with the alumni centre," he said. The A.W B. Charitable Founda tion is a major donor to the project. The $ 3 2 million structure will include: · A double gym and a single gym Oakville hosts pair of OHF championships this weekend The best peewee AA and ban tam A1 rep hockey teams in the province will be determined this weekend when Oakville hosts the Ontario Hockey Federation cham pionships this weekend at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. Both divisions feature champi ons of the OMHA, NOHA, Alliance and GTHL along with the host Rangers. In the peewee AA division, Oakville' s first game of a four-game round-robin is against the OMHA champ Northumberland Knighthawks at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Fri day). The Rangers then take on the NOHA champ Timmins North Stars at 6 p.m. tomorrow, the Alli ance champ W oodstock Jr. Navy Vets at 10 a.m. Saturday and the GTHL champ Vaughan Rangers at 3 p.m. later that day. Playoffs are Sunday, with semifi nals at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., winners meeting for the OHF title at 3 p.m. In the bantam A1 division, the host Rangers play their first game at 1 p.m. tom orrow against Al liance rep London Jr. Mustangs, followed by a 6 p.m. game against the NOHA champ Cochrane Blues. Saturday, the Rangers play the OMHA champ Barrie Colts at 1 p.m. and Alliance rep Stratford W arriors at 6 p.m. Semifinal playoff games are at 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday, winners play ing for the championship at 3 p.m. Standing on the future site of the A.W.B. Bales scored four minutes into overtime as the Blades cut Georgetown' s lead in the Ontario Junior Hockey League South W est Con ference final to 2-1.
