To that end, Oakville GO Transit riders looking for a pick-me-up on their way to work will now be able to get a cup of Joe from one of Canada' s most popular brands. As part of a one-year pilot program, Metrolinx and the Kilmer Group have teamed up to add four new modular Tim Hortons restaurants at the Oakville, Clarkson, Ont., Ajax, Ont., and Oshawa, Ont. GO stations, starting this spring. Commuters will be able to grab a morning beverage and/ or snack at the station, on their way to board the train. The announcement was made Thursday morning, April 13, at the Oakville GO Station. In attendance for the news was Ministry of Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca, Ward 3 Town and Regional Councillor Dave Gittings, Metrolinx chief operating officer Greg Percy and Kilmer Group vice-chairman Ken Tanenbaum. Tim Hortons had a modular restaurant/truck onsite to provide guests with free coffee. "I'm a commuter, just like all of you. I know, very much like coffee, transportation can actually make or break your day. It can be the reason you miss a dentist appointment and it can even make you late for work," said Del Duca. "We' ve all experienced these types of challenges, most of us, on a daily basis. I, too, have to travel back and forth from m y community of Vaughan to Queen' s Park every day." Besides easing gridlock, Del Duca said people are just as passionate about beverages, whether it' s coffee, water or tea. "For me, coffee is the one thing that can literally make my morning commute more enjoyable. It can give me a Ministry of Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca announced a one-year pilot program to add four new Tim Hortons modular restaurants to GO stations in Oakville, Clarkson, Ont., Ajax, Ont., and Oshawa, Ont. The initiative is a result of a partnership between Metrolix, government agency that operates GO Transit, and the Kilmer Group. | Nathan Howes/Metroland little bit of a boost or put a hop in my step during my evening commute," said Del Duca. The pilot program is expected to start this spring, with Oakville earmarked to get the first of the four modular restaurants. An exact date for the arrival of the Tim Hortons unit here, or at the other locations, wasn' t specified. "This one-year, pilot program will make getting coffee on the go easier and more convenient for commuters travelling to and from Oakville, Mississauga, Ajax and Oshawa," said Del Duca. The program will run for one year, and after that time, Metrolinx will then determine whether to keep it operating at the four locations and/ or choose to add it to more stations. "Today' s announcement complements our government' s plan to get you to places faster, easier and on a more reliable transportation network," said Del Duca. Given Tim Hortons' "very rich history" in Oakville, Gittings said this new initiative and modular restaurant would be a very popular endeavour for commuters. Percy said the program is an example of Metrolinx' s focus on putting GO Transit customers first and is "extremely important to us." "By giving customers the option to buy their morning double-double at their GO station, w e're making their commute, and their day, that much easier and much more enjoyable," said Percy.
