" St. Ann purchase is up to council The Town of Oakville is facing a deadline on whether or not it wants to buy the former St. Ann School property on Hixon Street. If interested, the Town must put an offer on the table as of May 8. The matter, whose details remain confiden tial, is set to go before council Monday, May i. In October 2 0 f6 , the Town received notice from the board that the former St. Ann school property, on which the school building has been demolished, was no longer needed by the school board and it was issuing a proposal to sell the property Town staff received inquiries from councillors on the future of the site, and as a result, staff reviewed it to determine if there was a potential municipal need or purpose for the former school property In accordance with Ontario regulations, interested public bodies on the school board circulation list are required to provide notice of their expression of interest in response to the offer within 90 days of the initial notice. To preserve the Town' s position to potentially acquire the site, the Town submitted an expression of interest, subject to Council direction. The expression of interest advised the HCDSB if the Town was selected through the circulation process, Town staff would seek formal authority from Council to proceed with preparation of an offer. However, the Town is under no obligation to proceed with an offer if Council does not wish to pursue any acquisition. -D r.
