The Buzz scored nine goals in the first 15 minutes and rolled to a 17-8 win over the W est Durham Ironheads last Friday. Leading the way were Braniff, who had four goals and five assists, and Matt Anderson, who had a goal and eight assists. Jadon W alcot scored twice and set up three more and Henry Follows and Luke Pilcher also had a pair of goals. Adam Wolf had a goal and four assists while Patrick Gamble, Mathew Dilella, Austin Redding and Kyle Kennery had the other Oakville goals. W est Durham cut the lead to 10-5 in the second pe riod but the Buzz stalled any thought of an Ironheads comeback with three goals in the final three minutes of the period. Matt Hodowany picked up the win in net. Follows and Nick Fulgenzi each had a pair of assists. The win snapped a losing streak that had reached four games following a 14-7 loss to the Green Gaels the previous night. Braniff had three goals and Wolf and Anderson each had a goal and two assists. Hayden Coulman and Rob ert Proner had the other Oakville goals and W alcot had three assists. The Buzz play three games in three days beginning Thursday in Newmarket. Oakville then hosts Newmar ket Friday and Orillia Sunday. Friday' s game is a 7:30 p.m. start while Saturday' s game begins at 7 p.m. Both are at Joshua' s Creek Arenas. Camille Leonard was named a recipient of the State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor' s Scholar-Athlete Award. The award recognizes outstanding academic excellence and athletic achievement. The Oakville native became just the sev enth Plattsburgh student-athlete to receive the award. Leonard won her fourth straight NCAA Division III wom en' s hockey title, wrapping up her career as the Division III all-time leader in wins (7 5 ) and save percentage (.9 4 9 ) while finishing second all-time in shutouts with 30. In her senior season she led the nation in wins (2 5 ), goalsagainst average (1 .1 1 ) and winning percentage (.9 6 2 ). She was fourth in the country in shutouts with seven, four of which came against nationally-ranked opponents. She allowed one goal or less in 19 of her 2 6 starts. She earned two All-America selections, three NCAA Champion ship All-Tournament selections and was the 2016 ECAC West goalie of the year, while earning all-conference honours three times. The social work major had a 3 .8 6 cumulative grade-point average. She was named the female co-winner of the Dr. Rich ard D. The festivities, which are being held at the team's clubhouse at 2 2 1 4 Ninth Line, starts at 6 p.m. The rain date is Monday, May 22. In addition to the fireworks, the day includes a barbecue, a parents vs. kids soccer game and socializing. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be on sale along with pop for the kids. Angels begin season with tourney win in Brampton The Oakville Angels started the 2 0 1 7 girls' mite (u n d er-10) rep softball season on a winning note, taking home the championship trophy from the Bram pton Blazers fast-pitch tournam ent on the week end. The Angels dumped the Halton Hawks 12-5 in the championship game after winning three of four round-robin games including a 7-6 nail-biter over the Milton Bats se niors. Bridget Lam ont' s walk-off RBI single broke a 6 -6 tie. The Angels, who defeated Bramp ton Blazers 17-0 and Port Perry 8-5 in the other two round-robin games, went on to defeat Milton 8 -0 in a re match in the semifinals. In the finals the Angels took an early lead and never looked back. Oakville returns to league play today (Tuesday) and competes in its next tournament May 2 6 -2 8 at the Halton Hawks May Classic.
