Halton mothers were less likely to smoke, misuse drugs, or experience a mental health concern during pregnancy, and more likely to attend prenatal classes, take folic acid supplements, or have a healthy prepregnancy body mass index compared to mothers in Ontario. Infant mortality rates, stillbirth rates, and the rate of congenital anomalies and infections were also lower in Halton compared to Ontario. The data presented in the Reproductive Health in Halton, along with scientific literature, emerging issues, and consideration of priority populations, will be used to inform the work of various public health programs and services related to reproductive health, such as the Healthy Babies Healthy Children and the Early Years programs that aim to help all women in Halton have safe and healthy pregnancies and births. This report will also be circulated to health system partners such as midwives, obstetricians, the Local Health Integration Networks (LHINS), and hospitals in Halton Region.
