Skelding is a past chair of the board of directors for Credit Valley Hospital and led the voluntary merger with the Mississauga and Queensway hospitals. He served as treasurer and vice-chair of the Trillium Health Partners and was on the Principal's Advisory Council for the University of Toronto (Mississauga campus).
