W hile waterside other lakefront communities have restaurants or cafes, no such Once the pilot ends, and if Council chooses to move forward with a permanent waterside gathering place, a proposed timeline for downtown activity initiatives has suggested an opening sometime in 2018. Town staff identified objectives for the pilot including to provide an engaging outdoor pop up restaurant/dining experience, to test the community interest in a longer-term dining establishment by the water, to add interest and activity to public spaces and to provide for social interaction and community involvement. Staff examined options for the pilot, such as gourmet food trucks or a pop-up restaurant that would provide a creative m enu in a sit-down atmosphere. The only location with parking for food trucks at Oakville harbour is Shipyard Park. A number of Town lakefront parks have been reviewed and it has been determined the most suitable location for a pop-up restaurant is Tannery Park. According to the report, the top of Tannery Hill provides a "tremendous panoramic view of the lake," as well as a cantilevered deck that would be suitable for installing a tent, chairs and tables for a pop-up restaurant. In addition, potable water and electrical services are nearby and there is adequate room for a portable washroom trailer and tent for back-of-house food preparation. Parking is available within the lot at the pier and additional spaces at 5 Walker St. - JOHN PALADINO L A W OFFICE www.jplaw.ca opportunity exists downtown Oakville. The missing feature of the downtown is a waterside gathering place where people can have a light meal and/or drinks in view of Lake Ontario. That' s according to residents' feedback in Downtown Cultural Hub and Harbours Master Plan public consultations, says the Town. Town staff reported recently a lakeside restaurant or dining cafe would animate the waterfront, provide for social interaction and assist with revitalization of the downtown core. A May 8 staff report from Parks and Open Space, which outlined the details of a pilot project, got the go-ahead at council May 29. The pilot project involves launching a pop-up restaurant this summer at Tannery Park, which is located on the lake. The suggested location for the restaurant is at the top of the hill, offering a panoramic view of Lake Ontario. The pilot will run a minimum of 10 days, beginning around mid-July, but no longer than six weeks. A request-for-proposal has been issued to determine interest by a restaurateur/caterer. · REAL ESTATE · WILLS & ESTATES · COMMERCIAL LEASING · CORPORATE 447 Speers Road,Suite 200B,Oakville,ON L6K 3S7 Phone: 905.842.3311 ~ Fax: 905.842.7433 | A STEP BEYO ND IN C A R E DO YOU HAVE: R eg'chiropodist * Foot/Arch Pain? · Ingrown Toenails? · Diabetes? · Swollen Ankles? · Corns, Calluses?
