Indeed, these two play ers are looking for the puck, and if you look carefully, it's right by the glove of the Sylvania player (white jersey). This game from the huge Oakville `m inor' hockey tournament fea tured a novice double-A division game between Oakville and Sylvania. More photos, see B15. Photo by Barrie Erskine Bronze at U.S. tourney Two Oakville sisters who have taken the Canadian squash world by storm both had productive visits to the 2000 U.S. Junior Olympics held Dec. 15-18 at Yale University, each bringing back a bronze medal. Sisters Ruchika and Neha Kumar are both defending Canadian Open champions, each winning winning the age group above their own earlier this month. Ruchika, 16, won the U -19 age group; Neha, 12, won the U-15 age group. The two were slated to leave after Christmas for the Scottish and British Opens. RUCHIKA KUMAR Despite Ruchika's impressive accomplishments here in Canada she was surprisingly unseeded at the pres tigious U.S. meet. Undaunted, she opened with a tidy 9 - 1, 9-1, 9-0 win over a New York State competitor. She than caught the attention of tournament organizers with a second round win over fourth seeded Nicolette Fernandes of Guyana in a hard fought but straight sweep, 9-5, 10- 9, 9-7. Perhaps tournament organizers should have paid more attention to the Canadian Open where it was Ruchika that beat the same Nicolette Fernandes in the championship game 9-7, 0-9, 90, 9-4. In the quarterfinals, Ruchika pulled off a brilliant straight set win over fifth seeded Diana Huerta of Mexico, 9-5, 9-4,9-4. Ruchika had lost to her in two previous meetings. That put the Oakville youth into the semifinals where she finally lost. But it took the tournam ent's top seed, from America, to beat her 6-9, 9-3, 9-7, 10-9.
