Run in support of Teagan Walsh continued from p.9 Fox died on June 28, 1981, but not before challenging all of Canada to finish his dream. On Sept. 17, Oakville residents will have the opportunity to take up that challenge. This year's fundraising goal for the Oakville Terry Fox Run is $150,000. Over the years the Oakville community has raised $4.8 million for the Terry Fox Foundation with the Oakville Terry Fox Run raising $2.1 million. The money raised at the local event funds groundbreaking research needed to treat people like Oakville resident Teagan Walsh. Teagan is being treated for osteosarcoma, the same cancer that Fox had. A new surgical technique saved her leg and she is now undergoing chemotherapy. "We are so happy to have a brave Terry Foxer like Teagon sound the horn to start the 2017 Terry Fox Run this year," said Oakville Run Chair Pam Damoff in a press release. "Her surgery is the type of breakthrough being made every day because of advances in cancer research." To register for the run or to make a donation visit www.terryfox.ca/terryfoxrun/ oakville. Residents can also register as a team at www.terryfox.org. Registration for teams and individuals will also be available on site the morning of the run. Participants are encouraged to car pool and are reminded there is no parking in Coronation Park itself. Runners are also being asked to observe all `No Parking' signs on side streets nearby. The Oakville Terry Fox Team was also at the Bronte and Oakville GO stations on Wednesday (Sept. 13) collecting donations for the Terry Fox Foundation. Run day will feature a kids' activity tent, music, food and fun. Terry Fox Run T-shirts will be available for purchase on site with all proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation. Again this year the Oakville run will feature special `In Memory Of' and `In Honour Of' road signs on sale for $5 each, so participants can honour a friend or family member who has experienced cancer. Organizers are still looking for volunteers to assist at the event with everything from marshaling along the run route and working the registration table to cheering on run finishers. For more information or to volunteer, contact Jasper Moester at jasper. terryfoxoakville@gmail.com. Students will receive volunteer hours for their efforts. Coronation Park is located at 1426 Lakeshore Rd., W., near Third Line.
