Oakville Sears store set to close by Marta Marychuk Oakville Beaver Staff 13 |Thursday October 5, 2017 | OAKVILLE BEAVER |www.insidehalton.com Sears Canada will be closing another 10 department stores, including the store in Oakville Place shopping mall, as part of a major restructuring effort. The Sears stores at Lime Ridge Mall in Hamilton, Fairview Mall and Scarborough Town Centre will also be closed, along with six other Sears department stores across the country Until as recendy as last week, the Sears store in Oakville Place mall was undergoing renovations and there was no visible indication the location was about to be closed. Earlier this year, Sears announced it would be closing 59 stores when the company received court protection from its creditors. Sears Canada, which is based in Toronto, will also seek an extension ofthe courts protection from creditors until Nov. 7. The additional retail locations being closed employ 1,200 people, according to The Sears store at Oakville Place is slated to be closed as Sears scales back its retail operations. | Graham Paine/Metroland Sears. Another 12,000 people continue to work for the company. There have been no successful bids to keep Sears operating as a whole, the company also announced. A plan submitted by executive chairman Brandon Stranzl was conditional on financing and other factors and has so far been unsuccessful. There was no information about Sears liquidation sales in Oakville or other locations available at press time Tuesday.
