In a notice posted on its website, Town staff noted although water levels have started to recede, they remain higher than normal and some areas are still prone to sudden flooding and ponding when heavy rainfall is combined with easterly winds. Areas taped or fenced off may be unsafe and residents are asked to respect the closures so no one gets hurt. Town staff said they are inspecting lakeside parks twice daily and will reopen them when it is safe to do so. On Wednesday (Oct. 11) the Town announced it had closed the Oakville Harbour east pier due to high waves. The pier remained closed as of midday Thursday (Oct. 12). Other areas listed as being closed on the Town's website include portions of Coronation Park. While the majority of that park has been reopened to the public the splash pad and two sections along the lakefront remain closed. Shoreline access remains closed at Gairloch Gardens and a section of trail at Dingle Park, from Allan Street to Trafalgar Road, is off-limits at this time. Residents are also being asked to avoid the westerly portion of the Carrington Promenade, the Bronte Beach Park launch ramp and Timber Lane's West Street pathway; For information, visit www.oakville.ca. Residents are asked to contact ServiceOakville at 905-845-6601 or through ServiceOakville® oakville.ca if they see water threatening to flood structures or roadways.
