by Catherine O'Hara Metroland Media West M etroland M edia rallying behind GivingTuesday for local charities GivingTuesday C O N C R E T E While Black Friday and Cyber Monday serve as the unofficial kick off to holiday shopping, Giving Tuesday is celebrated as the start of the giving season. A global movement that brings charities, businesses and individuals together for the cause, Giving Tuesday is gaining tremendous Uaction right here in Halton. Staunch supporters of the good work of local organizations, the Oakville Beaver and its sister papers in Burlington and Milton are supporting Giving Tuesday to give our local not-for-prohts a financial lift. In advance of the Nov. 28 day of giving, your community newspaper will shine a special light on local charities and non-profit organizations, raising awareness of their respective missions and visions, all the while encouraging residents to give generously We will do so by way of a special section that will hit doorsteps Nov. 24. The publication, delivered with your copy of the newspaper, will profile local organizations and offer readers an extensive list of charities and not-for-profit agencies that serve our community. "This movement fits perfectly with our own goals of connecting and bettering the communities we serve as it welcomes `any organization that is committed to helping Canadian charities and non-profits,'" said Metroland Media Group's Halton Division Regional General Manager Kelly Montague. "We are thrilled to help promote giving in a number of our products, including on our WagJag platform, where subscribers can not only find great Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals in advance of Giving Tuesday, but also donate directly to Halton-based groups leading up to Nov. 28." Cogeco has jum ped on board to team up with Metroland, the Beaver's parent company, to promote local giving in the Halton markets and will feature the movement on local programming and YourTV -- an exclusive service provided to Cogeco customers. Like the economic boost that comes from November 28, 2017 Black Friday and Cyber Monday, statistics reveal Giving Tuesday's impact on community organizations is huge.
