More than 200 women, their families and supports attended the Mississauga Halton Central West (MHCW) Regional Cancer Program event held in partnership with Halton Healthcare and the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS). BRA Day is a free event that invites women with breast cancer to learn about breast reconstruction options and provides unique opportunity to connect with women who have O been through it. The evening kicked off with Oakville's Dr. Alex Ginty welcoming everyone to a "rewarding and positive evening.. .full of hope." As emcee for the evening and well-known breast cancer survivor, author and Primary Care Lead for the MHCW Regional Cancer Program, Ginty is uniquely positioned to speak to both sides of the breast cancer journey. Throughout the evening, oncologists, plastic surgeons and other primary care providers presented to the audience and attendees had the chance to visit vendor and community booths. A panel Q & A session and a mix-and-mingle opportunity with leading breast reconstruction experts complemented the interactive evening. Undoubtedly the highlight of the educational event is the Show and Tell Lounge, where women at varying stages of the breast reconstruction journey share their personal experiences with other women. This private, women-only space offers a safe and comfortable environment for showing real life results, sharing and connecting. Many women considering post-mastectomy breast reconstruction want to see the real results of various breast reconstruction procedures, in person, rather than just seeing before-and-after photos. They also want the chance to discuss those results with the women who have had the procedure. A Show and Tell volunteer summed up her own experience, specifically with regards to the Show and Tell Lounge, "A few short years ago I was the newbie patient in the r o o m . Very scared, not knowing what to expect...just trying to soak up all the information I could from the volunteers. I now feel like I have finally given back and helped people who are just starting out on this jo u r n e y .it was an amazing experience." -- submitted by Emma Murphy, Senior Communications Consultant, Communications & Public Affairs Department, Halton Healthcare DRUG M ART · · · · Patient Counselling Complete Diabetic Care Home Visits Consultations Free RX Delivery DE RANGO PHARMACY INC ep right into our office. c u s to m - m a d e o r t h o t ic s · fo o t/a n k le in ju r ie s · d ia b e t ic c a re · in g r o w n n a ils / w a r t s o r t h o p e d ic f o o t w e a r / N o w o f f e r i n g S IG V A R IS c o m p r e s s io n s to c k in g s (c ' o v e r e d" " b y m o s t e x t e n d"e d" " h e al lt th h p la la ns n, sa s , .............................. k f o r d e ta ils ) Fabio De Rango Pharmacist/Owner Voted Oakville's Favourite Pharmacist & Pharmacy DE RANGO PHARMACY INC 2501 Third Line 1905-465-3000 O pen 24 hours 17 D ays aW eek 478 D undas Street W est 1905-257-9737 C anada P ost 627 L y o n s L a n e , S u ite 205 w w w .sh o p p ers d ru g m art.c a Silvia Araujo B.Sc(Hons), D.Ch 9 0 5 -8 4 4 -0 6 8 0 o a k v ille c lin ic @ b e lln e t.c a w w w .o a k v ille fo o tc lin ic .c o m Oakville Foot Clinic | Sr Orthotic Centre
