This event highlights the importance of working together to keep our community safe and healthy, and I would like to thank our paramedics for everything they do to achieve this goal. We are fortunate to have highly skilled first responders serving residents of Halton, and we are grateful for their dedication to saving lives in this community. Our paramedics provide the community with high-quality pre-hospital care, and our Advanced Care Paramedics have undergone extensive training to further enhance their skills. Every year, Halton's 220 paramedics respond to over 50,000 calls and transport nearly 30,000 people. From the battles of Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele 100 years ago to modern peacekeeping missions, Canada's veterans fought far from home to defend others. These brave individuals helped end international conflicts, maintain peace and promote global security. They placed themselves at risk and made the ultimate sacrifice to secure our future. The efforts of our veterans and current members of the Canadian Armed Forces ensured we could build the strong, inclusive and peaceful society they believed in. By coming together to honour their sacrifices, we express our gratitude for everything they achieved and live the values they fought to protect.
