Oakvil e a cappella groupfeatures Canadian music at Nov. 18 show The Circle o f Harmony a cappella chorus celebrates Canada's 150th anniversary with Canadian music featured in its upcoming show Ca nadian, eh? on Saturday, Nov. 18. The four-part harmony a cap pella chorus includes a show choir, quartets, exciting choreography and Canadian music written and made famous by Canadian artists. The a cappella chorus will pres ent a matinee at 2 p.m. and evening show at 7:30 p.m. Both shows will held at Clearview Church, 2300 Sheridan Garden Dr., in Oakville. Circle o f Harmony is a chapter o f Sweet Adelines International and is a registered Canadian charity. Char tered in 1998, Circle o f Harmony is based in Oakville with members from all over the Golden Horseshoe. The award-winning chorus recendy achieved its 20-year goal of earning a spot to compete in front of a worldwide audience. The Circle o f Harmony received one o f 10 international wildcard in vitations to the Sweet Adelines In ternational competition, which will be held in St. Louis, Miss, in 2018. The 24 HOURS Animation Contest, sponsored by Cal State University in Long Beach, Calif, from Oct. 7-11, attracted 915 students from 44 schools in seven countries. Teams were given the chal lenge o f creating a 30-second animated film over a 24-hour period that interpreted the fol lowing phrase: "One o f these things is not like the others; one o f these things just doesn't belong." A team o f second-year Sheri dan students, led by Daniel Park, won first place for their film, Bear Eats Mackerel. In addition, Sheridan student teams scooped up fifth, sixth and ninth place among the top 12 films. The films are Sherry Babies, The Great Shiggles and Team Chopsticks. A team o f fourth-year Sheri dan students in the Bachelor o f Game Design with the team name Oddbird Studio took first place at the annual Chillenni um Game Jam student contest for their game entided Bag Box. Chillennium, from Oct. 1318, is the largest student-run game jam in the United States. This year's event attracted more than 360 students from 23 Ca nadian and American post-sec ondary institutions. Hosted annually by the De partment o f Visualization at Texas A & M University, the contest brings together partici pants from across North Amer ica to showcase their skills. Participants can compete alone or as a team o f four, and have up to 48 hours to plan, de sign and develop a video game from scratch based on a theme.
