Leslie Miller, looked around the Ridge for a souvenir from the battlefield. Although the area was completely devoid of structures or vegetation due to shell fire, he did find a half buried oak tree. Miller gathered up a handful of acorns and brought them home to plant on farmland he subsequently called Vimy Oaks Farm. The Vimy Oaks team is working in partnership with the Vimy Foundation to repatriate these Vimy Oaks back to Vimy, France in an effort to help preserve Canada' s First World War legacy. The sapling being planted was procured by Oliver from Vimy Oaks Farm , and is being donated to serve as a constant reminder for the town of Oakville of the sacrifices given by Canada' s brave women and men who have served our country. "I'm pleased that we are able to plant this tree at Oakville Legion Branch 114," said Oliver, in a press release.
