Midget Rangers Well-and fine After a one-day break for Thanksgiving, the Oakville Rangers midget AAA hockey team lost to host Burlington, 6-3. The Rangers played a disorganized game, giving up one power play goal in the first period and another in the second and never did quite get it together to mount a sustained offence or solid defence. Mike Enns scored Oakville's first goal from Jeff Brown and Mike Zujko on a power play in the second period. Oakville added two more in the third period, the first by Mark Murray, deflecting a beautiful point shot from Don Hartt; and the final goal, just after a Burlington penalty expired, by Ryan Andrews from Shaun Dakin and Jeff Brown. To Oakville's credit, though behind for the entire game, they never gave up and came back in the final frame to close the gap. WELL-AND FINE The Rangers looked like a different (and much stronger) team the following night, Wednesday, at home to Welland, handing their visitors their first defeat of the season with a score of 2-1. Welland, a traditionally strong team in this age group, got on the score board first at the beginning of the second period, but Oakville held on and Geoff Curtis potted two goals within the next five minutes to put Oakville in the lead which they preserved. Assists went to Jeff Brown, Don Hartt and Bryan Mills. Nick Ball had another great game for Oakville between the pipes.
