On Friday, Nov. 17 around 2:30 p.m. Halton Regional Police responded to an incident on Ford Drive north of the Kingsway Drive/South Service Road area. Initial reports were that a male had been struck by a dump truck. Emergency first responders said the man was dead at the scene. The construction worker was a 32-year-old resident of Cambridge. The dump truck was driven by a 49-year-old man from Mississauga. At the time of the incident, Ford Drive was being repaved. Greg Cormier of Halton police's Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) told Metroland Media West that the victim was on foot and working on the paving crew at the time of the incident. He was hit by a reversing truck. The CRU was called in to investigate. The Ministry of Labour also attended the scene. Since 2010 the Giving Back is Priceless Lunch has raised $97,974 for the local charity. There is no shortage of need for these funds with Shannon Robinson, coordinator for the Oakville Salvation Army's Community and Family Services program, noting the charity's food bank assisted 1,385 people in Oakville during 2016. The group's Christmas Assistance Program, which provides food and toys to families who would otherwise go without, served 400 local families including 600 children in 2016. The local Salvation Army also helps the needy in the community through clothing voucher programs, furniture referrals, summer camping programs, income tax clinics and back to school support, among other things.
