Visit insidehalton.comfor more coverage Arts Council releases guide for newcomers Culture Passport Oakville offers free or discounted access to cultural activities NATHAN HOWES Newcomers will have an easier time accessing community events with the help of a new Oakville Arts Council (OAC) publi cation. Culture Passport Oak ville contains information on arts and culture, and free or discounted access to arts and cultural activ ities around town, with the goal of encouraging new residents from diverse eth nocultural groups to par ticipate in the community. The OAC officially launched the complimen tary guide Jan. 11 at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre. The event included re marks from OAC repre sentatives, Oakville MPP and Ontario Labour Min ister Kevin Flynn and Mayor Rob Burton, as well as performances from the Oakville Chinese Network and Eddie Paton. "This was the project we decided to launch because it was a really good fit. It ticked a lot of the boxes for us," Bernadette Ward, OAC executive director, told the Oakville Beaver prior to the event. Through a partnership with the Halton Multicul tural Council (HMC Con nections), a group helping newcomers settle and inte grate into communities, more than 500 copies of the passport, published in En glish and Mandarin, have been distributed.
