Jonkman ADVERTISING FEATURE W ith summer here, the timing is perfect to build a new deck to enjoy the weather. It couldn't be easier than with the help of Leisure Lumber, a division of Just Decks Ltd. "We've taken the existing deck market and improved upon it in three areas," explains Just Decks president, Doug Holmstead. "Our designs are much more elaborate and sophisti cated than your typical 12'x 12' deck, the space is designed to be much more functional and practical, and the materials are superior." Leisure Lumber was created three years ago in response to the demand of superior design and materials, which became quite evi dent as business increased at Just Decks. "We wanted to offer the same concept as Just Decks but for homeowners who would rather do the work themselves," Holmstead says, "while maintaining the reputation we've built at Just Decks." The strategy to offer high end materials and service keeps the company busy to capacity. It is no surprise that customers are choosing to use higher quality materials and designs for their decks, an investment that will increase the value and pleasure of their home. Like Just Decks, Leisure Lumber offers a design service. Customers need only bring in measurements and details to get a customized deck plan prepared for them. "We do the designing on a 3D computer," Holmstead explains, "so the customer can see how it will look. This way we can create a design to match exactly what the customer wants." Once the design has been drawn up, a mate rial list, cut list and footings and beams lay out are also provided. The customer will have everything they need to build their own custom deck. Professionals at Leisure Lumber are on hand to answer questions and help overcome any obstacles during the building process--all you need to do is call. "This service and information was previ ously unavailable to the public," says Holmstead, who is quite pleased with the growing popularity of Leisure Lumber. Besides offering superior materials, designs and service, Leisure Lumber has a surplus of experience to share with customers. "The main thing is we have more product knowledge because the people here have actu ally been building decks for years," says Holmstead. "This is our primary business-- we deal only with decks. It's like a store that consists only of a deck department." On that note, they stock only the materials they have used and found effective. If an accessory or component doesn't do what it says on the package, or isn't easy to use, Leisure Lumber won't stock it. Customers can feel confident that everything, from building materials to fur nishings have been tried, tested and approved by the staff. "We stand behind our inventory because it's what we use," says Holmstead. "It's not just available because it's on the market." Staff also enthusiastically share tips, tricks, methods and insights that will help make the building process simpler. These are tech niques that only someone with experience building a deck would know. These resources are valuable whether the deck you are planning is simple or elaborate. It's also a perfect resource for contractors. Leisure Lumber carries quality cedar lum ber, which, according to Holmstead, is pre dictable and controllable. The quality is con sistent. They also carry furnishings, accessories and hardware--for building a deck or enjoying it. A new item available at Leisure Lumber that appeals to those with an increasingly busy lifestyle and less leisure time, is the vinyl deck. This alternative building product is mainte nance-free, easy to install and stays beautiful for years. Vinyl decks come in a 2"x6" deck board configuration which can be used in place of traditional 2"x6" deck planks. It's simple to put together, with concealed screws, and comes in white, gray, beige or sand. It can be built in combination with some woodwork and also comes with a 20 year guarantee. And your new deck won't be com plete without a set of Muskoka Chairs. Made of cedar (or hockey sticks!), they add a comfortable finishing touch to any backyard or deck. If you're thinking about building a deck drop by Leisure Lumber for more information. They are located at 730 Griffiths Rd. (off Fairview, halfway between Walkers and Appleby Lines), or call 847-8233.
