A recent study has found that nearby residents have fewer complaints about the smells coming from the refinery than they did prior to the improvements. Residents also reported that they are generally happier with their community and have less desire to move than they did back in 1992, when a similar survey was conducted. However, the study did not find a noticeable drop in complaints about odour-related illnesses, despite the improvements. According to Dr. Robert Nosal, Halton's Medical Officer of Health, that seems to be because people in the com munity have been sensitized to the pres ence of the refinery and may be likely to relate headaches or other general health problems to it.
