2 By CHERYL ELLIOT ‘River Oaks residents association seeks location for community police station If interested in philatelics, the Oakville Stamp Club meets every second and fourth Tuesday of each month. There are lectures, auctions, dealers, trading and sales circuit.. Membership forms will be available at OAKPEx ‘93 Special to the North News River Oaks is no closer to having a permanent home for its police subâ€"station, Ralph Carnovale told fellow directors at the monthly meeting of the River Oaks Association of Residents (ROAR) last week. Carnovale, who is also chairman of the Community Consultation Committee for River Oaks and College Park, said the group was approaching builders to see if they could house the subâ€"station in one of their sales office trailers when it was no longer in use. When asked about crime in the area, Const. Lisa Scott of the Halton Regional Police Service said there is a low crime rate throughout River Oaks this winter. She added, there are not as many problems because of the number of cold days, but as it is warming up, more people are "becinning to come out". Scott expressed concern that there were no plans in place to deal with the ongoing problems with youth in the area. She said she will be meeting with Sheridan College to discuss setting up a system where students who volunteer to work with youth can get credit. "I‘m in a position where I will have to charge the kids if something is not going to be done soon," she cautioned the group. YOUTH FACILITY | ROAR president Bob McIntosh, and director Bob Caster, met recentâ€" ly with the Oakvilleâ€"Trafalgar Lions Club to discuss the possibility of coâ€"operating on setting up a facility for youth. ROAD CONCERNS Another concern of the directors was safety on the River Oaks roads. Scott said that speeding on Sixth Line â€" north of Munns Avenue â€" had now "calmed down" since police set up speed traps. She added that "they will start looking at Towne Boulevard." "We would be looking at kicking off something in September," Caster said. Councillor, Sean Weir, suggested ROAR talk with the Glen ‘Abbey Community Policing Committee set up by Ward 4 Regional Councillor, Stephen Sparling, which is also looking at setting up a youth centre in Glen Abbey.
