BECOME FRIENDS â€" "Simply stated, this proposed change transfers the portable problem from Munn‘s to Montclair," said area resident Michael Patrick who asked the board delay on making the change to research other alternatives. Enrolment projections in north Oakville show a growth of With overcrowding expected at Munn‘s School on Sixth Line in the order of 11 portables by 1997, the board made the change â€" one that will put 11 portables at Montclair in the near future. Ward 6 trustee Linda Lane first moved to defer the decision for a year. She noted low comfort levâ€" els in the community with the perceptions being the board was rushing into something on which it has to spend money but doesn‘t need to act on immediately. the students wmmge numâ€" bers "really e C X ‘re going to go to Monwl* Last week, concerns were regâ€" istered by Shirley Tontini on behalf of the French Immersion parents at Sunningdale who also called for a delay, perhaps to weigh the possibility of a K to Grade 8 program at Sunningdale, in light of French resource scarciâ€" ty at Montclair. "I appreciate there may be good pedagogical reasons for expanding Montclair to a Grades 6â€"7â€"8 environment, however, this must not be accomplished at the expense of the quality of that environment and at the expense of its students when other alternaâ€" tives to solve the over-population problem are available," said Patrick. Dr. Bradley Fox, another preâ€" senter, pointed out that no overâ€" crowding would occur until 1995 if nothing was done this year. "If the changes are made, the overcrowding at Montclair will occur immediately," said Fox, noting that in a year of fiscal restraint the board would be incurring portable costs. Lane also said she had safety concerns and noted that getting approval for 18 portables on site at White Oaks Secondary School which sits across the street from Montclair was difficult and askâ€" ing how 11 portables could be accommodated on the Montclair site. "Nothing will be lost if we defer for a year, there is a lot to gain,‘ said Lane. Ward 4 trustee Penny Siebert said a delay would draw out the agony and divide the community. Lane‘s call for deferral lost. Then it was Ward 5 trustee Debbie Marklew‘s turn who proâ€" posed Lorne Skuce and Munn‘s students attending Montclair in September 1993 with optional attendance given to Sunningdale students. Siebert said a K to Grade 8 program at Sunningdale which would need renovation to accomâ€" modate it was "not within the realms of reality" and Ward 1 trustee Lynne Clark called for the boardâ€"to "cet on with it." Many of the students will be coming from areas which don‘t yet have their own schools in the north and east and have been desâ€" ignated to attend Munn‘s on Sixth Line. The moving of all Grade 6 stuâ€" dents to Montclair thereby improving the program at the senior elementary school, would require 11 portables on that site by September 1996. approximately 700 students by 1997 to be accommodated in Lorne Skuce, Munn‘s, Montclair and Sunningdale (now a French Immersion/English school). That means over the next five years, Munn‘s will have an estiâ€" mated 11 portables on site.
