OAKVILLE NORTH NEWS Friday, April 2, 1993 â€" 18 During the summer cruising seaâ€" * son, many of the ships that normally cruise the Caribbean in the winter are repositioned to Europe, Bermuda, and Alaska. However, ships remain in the Caribbean and most of them offer excellent family programs, and famâ€" ilies are the passengers they want to attract in the summer months! A family cruise makes great sense â€" organizationally and finanâ€" cially. This vacation is allâ€"inclusive. Air transportation from your home city to your departure port is included. You are met at the arrival airport where you will be transferred to your ship (your luggage goes directâ€" ly to your cabin after you claim it from the airport carousel). Checkâ€"in takes less than an hour for the ship and you have been preâ€" cleared for all your ports of call. .__Your cruise includes five to _seven meals per day including a fabulous midnight buffet (yes, the kids will be there for that too!), 24â€" hour room service (for breakfast in bed or if you get hungry between meals!), and if you are going ashore for the day when visiting a port, the ship‘s staff will pack a box lunch. A wide choice of cabins is availâ€" able subject to your budget and needs. Some ships even have cabins that accommodate up to five (very economical for families). If you have a very big family, maybe you need two or those cabins! You may expect not to see too Oakville ~TRAVEL â€" Children welcome on summer cruises much of your children after they get the layout of the ship down and meet a few new friends. The older the kids, the less you see of them. A cruise is ideal for kids and parâ€" ents. The kids will have a wide variâ€" ety of activities to participate in and new friends and places to "hang out", all on board the ship. The older ones may go ashore with new friends and be very safe. Mom and Dad will also have a great time, with and without the kids, who are always close at hand. But even the young ones will be first up in the morning relating that they must go off to their 9 o‘clock crafts session! During days at sea, the pools and sports decks are busy spots for kids of all ages, and supervised activities are run throughout the day for the different age groups of kids. About the only time we say our kids on a cruise â€" that we did last summer â€" was at dinner. Even then, there was no lingering for the kids after dinner. They were off to the disco and other places of congregaâ€" tion for the gang! Babyâ€"sitting services are availâ€" able (for a fee) on most ships to allow Mom and Dad to enjoy the entertainment and try lady luck in the casino. Oh yes, one of the kid‘s favorite challenges is to sneak into the casino and try their luck at the slots before being chased out by the casino staff! Cruise packages â€" for a seven day cruise â€" start at about $1,200 per person for the first two in a cabin and about $800 per person for the third to fifth in the same cabin.
