Close to 500 Z people, including 272 students plus teachers from more than 75 Halton schools, sponsors, volunteers and government officials attended Earth Day celebrations at the Ontario Place Cinesphere on Tuesday. g The reception featuring screening of the IMAX films, Antarctica and q Blue Planet, and the presentation of the 1993 Exceptional Environmental â€"A Leadership Awards. Students were saluted for their initiatives including vermicomposting (worm composting), litterless lunch, recycling, fundraising for environmenâ€" tal causes, and participation in SCOPE (Students Concerned Over Planet Earth), SAFE (Student Action for the Environment) and TEAM (Teenagers for Environmental Awareness in Milton. And, this morning, the seven stuâ€" dents received instructions from a ‘Seventh Inning Stretcher,‘ said McBay. The opportunity came about after Pilgrim Wood won one of the three CAHPER (Canadian Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation) Awards given out in Halton earlier this year, and one of 300 school to be recognized nationâ€" ally for providing students with a quality daily fitness program. This is the second year Pilgrim Wood has won. They are James Phaneuf, Bobby Hemphrey, Justin Proctor, Johanna Sharpe, Derek Freizen, Allison Moffatt, and Lauren Chisholm. Their names were drawn in a raffle filled with ballets of those whose parents bought tickets to the game, explained teacher Sue McBay. The parents bought 350 tickets. Pilgrim Wood students to lead Jays ‘Seventh Inning Stretch‘ A lucky seven students from Pilgrim Wood School in Glen Abbey will be helping to lead the ‘Seventh Inning Stretch‘ at the Toronto Blue Jays game against the Kansas City Royals at the SkyDome next Wednesday, April 28th.
