Density of proposed townhouse development on Grand Plaza concerns Iroquois Ridge residents By CHERYL ELLIOT Special to the North News Amendments to the proposed townhouse development plans by the owners of the Grand Plaza were not enough to convince Iroquois Ridge Residents Association (IRRA) and local residents to sup- port the development. Some 40 people showed up to oppose the plans at a public meeting sponsored by the Town of Oakville on Aug. 23rd, IRRA president, Kurt Franklin, told the association’s executive at their monthly meeting in September.. Franklin said that although the owners had reduced the number of townhouses by two and no longer included three-storey buildings in their proposal, the housing density of the site still remained an issue with the residents living around the The owner wants to build 41 townhouses on the site resulting in a density of 47 units per hectare. The density in the surrounding area ranges from 25 to 35 units per hectare, according to Franklin. IRRA is planning to hold a pub- lic meeting after the Town’s recom- mendation on the proposal becomes available Nov. 15th and before the issue goes before Council, Nov. ing out a questionnaire in its newsletter this month to all Iroquois Shore residents to get a broader community opinion on the proposed development for the site. On_other matters, the Board agreed that the proposed construc- tion of double left turn lanes from Ford Drive onto Upper Middle Road would be helpful in relieving trafï¬c congestion during rush hour. The association welcomed a new vice-president to its executive. Drew Kern ï¬lls the position vacated by Franklin earlier this year.
