In his remarks to the residents, councillor Stephen Sparling, acting mayor, said, "It is council‘s wish to work as closely as we can on these sites. It‘s great to see plans turn into houses which turn into homes." PROVINCIAL FUNDING Golden Briar Heights is funded under the province of Ontario‘s Homes Now Nonâ€"Profit Housing Program. This community, located just north of Upper Middle and Trafalgar Roads, was first conceived in 1990 and cost $12,310,089 to build. Residents moved in one year ago into the two and three bedroom, twoâ€"storey units. "Everyone here is a testament to why nonâ€"profit housing works," said Milica Kovacevich, speaking on behalf of the Ontario Minister of Housing during the opening ceremoâ€" ny. "Nonâ€"profit housing creates jobs and is a lasting investment in our communities." More than 70 residents of Golden Briar Heights, including lots of little ghosts and goblins, were on hand to celebrate the official opening of the 88 unit family townhouse community at 2250 Golden Briar Trail in Iroquois Ridge last Saturday. "There are easements in both sides and it is a long, narrow property which was hard to develop," she says. "The horseshoe configuration makes it easy for parents to supervise kids." KIDS MEET FRIENDS Resident Heather Grant says the development layout is great for getâ€" ting to know people. "My four yearâ€" old has met a lot of kids since we‘ve lived here," she says. "Just fantastic‘ is how resident Louise Robinson describes her home. "Our kids can run around freely and the people here are very nice." The need for developments like Golden Briar Heights can be seen by the waiting list of 1,000 families in Halton for units like these. "We used a point rating system from the Ministry to determine who moved in here," explains Johnston.
