The Captain‘s comment, "One of the most pleasant crossings in memory for this time of year." Life onâ€"board the QE2 is very luxâ€" urious! Cabin service and dining room service are amongst the best I‘ve enjoyed at sea. The only criticism would be that bar service in the public rooms was slow. Christmas in the Country We left New York City at 3 p.m. in beautiful sunshine. The views of New York City from the ship were magnifâ€" icent! _ Let me give you a few impressions of a Transatlantic crossing â€" a cruise very different from a sevenâ€"day Caribbean or Alaska cruise. In 1982, Heather and I were booked for this cruise on the QE2, but the ship was called to naval service by the British Navy for the Falkland‘s War! Last week, I had the pleasure of completing a cruise â€" a Transatlantic crossing on the Queen Elizabeth 2 â€" that started in 1982. * Travel with Cruise Holidays t * Smith sought and obtained approval from the board to set the profit aside as a reserve to offset any future losses incurred by Summerfest.â€" The committee also recommendâ€" ed that Summerfest remain a threeâ€" day festival and, for 1994, the festiâ€" val‘s 10th anniversary, GARA should consider a new park layout, offer new rides, and beef up adverâ€" tising to the community. Book the QE2 for great Transatlantic crossing For the first time in its nineâ€"year history â€" Summerfest â€" an annual community festival sponsored by the Glen Abbey Residents Association (GARA), is in the black and can even boast a profit. Summerfest realized a profit of $3,280 this year, special events chair, Gail Smith, told GARA‘s board of directors at last month‘s meeting Following a ~postâ€"mortem meeting of the event, Smith said her committee recommended that Summerfest remain a Glen Abbey focused event. "We want to maintain the current size of Summerfest," she added. "If it gets any larger, Summerfest will become an Oakville event." Summerfest makes a profit, celebrates 10th year next summer SUMnmeERrEST GLEN ABBEY‘S As you only have one port of call â€" Southampton, your destination â€" you quickly settle into the shipboard life and truly escape from the rest of the world! Minimum time was spent out on deck as our speed of 28 knots (about 12 miles per hour) combined with 20 mph headwinds resulted in 50 mph winds on deck. The Town of Oakville has already approved Aug. 19th, 20th and 21st, as the 1994 Summerfest dates, said Smith, who will again be organizing the event. There is something for everyone on the QE2‘s daily activity program. The aerobics, gym, and spa programs start early in the day. You may keep busy midâ€"morning through late afterâ€" noon with computer courses in the computer center, bridge lessons and tournaments, art lectures, lessons and auctions. . The guest lecturers covered a wide range of subjects including: the theâ€" ater, personal financial management, the ‘Concorde‘, famous detectives of fiction, and famous women poisoners (which was well attended!). My favorite was the afternoon tea at 4 p.m. each day. I passed on the sandwiches, but enjoyed the ‘best‘ pastries I‘ve had in years! Did you know that they bake their breads and rolls three times a day. The Maurentania Dining Room is for Transatlantic Class and has two seatings. The food was fabulous! Not a complaint was heard from anyone! The QE2 has two classes of stateâ€" rooms, Firstâ€"Class and Transatlantic Class. Depending on your choice, you will then be assigned one of our dinâ€" ing rooms. The Queen‘s Grill, Princess‘ Grill, and Columbia Dining Rooms are for Firstâ€"Class and feature single seating dining. The ship is truly magnificent! There is extensive wood paneling in the public rooms and corridors, and there are paintings covering the walls throughout the ship. Winterfest â€" a oneâ€"day family event â€" in February, as well as, a car rally and golf tournament later in 1994. GARA‘s annual garage sale is slated for May and the committee will decide on a June or September ‘date for a Glen Abbey Blue Jay‘s night at the SkyDome. An extensive shopping promenade MasterCard Sponsored by Cruise Holidays offered a wide selection of clothes, jewelry, china, and QE2 souvenits which I found expensive. There is also a small Harrods shop onâ€"board. Our sailing up the-estuary and arrival at Southampton was also in Director Mohan Anand recomâ€" mended that the committee consider sponsoring an additional event Submitted by Bob Kerby, Cruise Holidays, 338â€"2077. beautifulâ€"sunshine â€" a fitting end to a fabulous cruise on the last great Transatlantic liner . . . the Queen Elizabeth 2! geared to teenagers with a basketâ€" 7 ball tournament mentioned as one 2 possibility. 3 ChuiseBa _ _
