NORTH NEWS Friday, September 2, 1994 â€" 6 Imara Research Corporation Patricia Rock, President 111 Peter Street, Suite 804 Toronto, Ontario MSV 2H1 Telephone: (416) 581â€"1740 Fax: (416) 581â€"0274 e What is document imaging and how © would I use it? Document imaging is the conversion of your business @ files to electronic form which are then stored and processed on your PC. With imaging software you can capture, store, recall, and manage information. Your documents are captured as images with a scanner (i.e. photocopyâ€" ing them directly into your PC) creating an electronic filing cabiâ€" nel. How long does it take to share and retrieve information? Within seconds you can retrieve information or share information on a network. For example, employees in one insurance company had access to a client folder only if it had not already been signed out. Ofien attached memos and/or complete folders were missing. The solution was an optical storage and retrieval system. (imaging) What about cross referencing a document?/n this particular insurâ€" ance company each folder is cross referenced to one or more of the 200 different contract documents with electronic annotations and the employees are provided with simultaneous fingertip access to thousands of clients. Is imaging limited to a specific business? Virtually any business can use document management and imaging. The judicial system uses it for storing, retrieving and sharing documents for litigation, depositions, contracts, and client correspondence. Providers of financial services have instant access to Revenue Canada rulings, propectuses, and annual reports. Corporations utilize it departâ€" mentally in marketing, competitive analysis, customer support, human resources, and client presentations. Research studies in areas such as pharmaceuticals and medicine have implemented imaging in clinical drug trials. Industries with employees working with hazardous materials need immediate access to MSDS sheets (Material Safety Data Sheets). A.W. HOOKER ASSOCIATES LTD. Joseph R. Pendlebury P.Q.S. Quantity Surveyors Construction Cost Consultants 50 Port Street East, Mississauga, Ontario L5G 1C1 (905) 891â€"3424 e Why is the lowest price not always © the best price? The price could be low because the contractor forâ€" @ got something, and you can be sure the contractor will cut his losses any way he can. He could also be desperate for money and will bid low, over bill, and leave the job incomplete. You can protect yourself by having reliable cost advice, and an independent review of progress billings. Most lending institutions make this a prerequisite to securing financing. It is important to review the intended scope and quality of the work and have it in writing BEFORE the contractor starts work. You will be surprised at the contractors exclusions, or definition of "Quality". @ Is it true the Architect has to pay the ®© cost of any overruns on a project? YES. On most projects, if the owner does not agree @ to changes, the Architects have to see to it that costs o the budget, or at least meet the clients reasonâ€" able expectations. Failure to do so could make the Architect involuntary investors in the project. Where the costs are significantly above the cost estimate, the onus is not on the owner to prove the Architect was negligent, but on the Architect to demonstrate that there has been no negligence. If the Architect does not obtain independent cost advice, he assumes the responsibility for the budget. Readers are cautioned not to rely solely on the answers given, but to get consultation for specific situations. PS als Dr. Nada Luburic 145 Dunn St. Telephone: §45â€"2291 (Corner of Dunn Randall) OAKVILLE CHIROPRACTIC CENTRE e What can chiropractic care ® offer my baby or child? A chiropractor‘s goal is to evaluate a A ® child‘s spine and correct when indicatâ€" ® ed, the spinal problems that haunt adults in later life. Remember as the twig is bent, so grows the tree. Neck problems later in life can be caused by lying a baby on its stomach and having its head turned constantly in the same direction. Colic can be a sign of a spinal misalignment. The suppleness of a child‘s spine can adapt or compensate for playground accidents altering normal spinal growth. The adolescent sports enthusiast most often sufâ€" fers the greatest spinal damage. e.g. The young gymnast is expected to be sore after a workout. Did the repeated falls injure the muscles or the spine? Your chiropractor has the ability to treat a spinal injury that can effect adult life or deterâ€" mine if a medical referral is indicated. MEDICAL M CLINIC Dr. Greg Thomson 581 Argus Road Telephone: 338â€"7227 e How do I choose a Weight e Management Program? As you look at the many and varied proâ€" A grams available in the weight loss and ©@ management area it certainly becomes confusing. Initially you should address what kind of diet it involves, is it real food, prepared meals or meal replacements? I certainly feel that without a real food base that learning new ways of eating are too delayed and perhaps never occur. Is there modification of behaviour involved? This must go beyond attending a clinic or writing food diaries, it must also look at the reasons a person has developed a weight probâ€" lem in a behavioural way. Is there a sound ratioâ€" nale behind the advice regarding supplements and vitamins? I believe that counsellors should be able to provide this important information in an understandable way. Any low calorie diet should be assessed to insure that adequate amounts of protein are added due to the body‘s need in the low calorie situation. These are just a few of the things to look for in assessing a proâ€" gram, we believe that the better informed you are, the greater your success will be. DON‘T JUST DO IT... DO IT RIGHT at the ARGUS MEDICAL DIET CLINIC. Hllton Falls walks There‘s nothing quite like a walk in the woods and Hilton Falls Conservation Area is an ideal place for a family hike. Along one of the hiking trails in Hilton Falls, children will be fascinated to find the ruins of Edward Hilton‘s Mill, built in 1835. With careful adult supervision, older children may also climb down the rocks and explore the shallow creek. Along the various trails, hikers may discover wetlands, beaver dams, meadâ€" ows, scenic water reservoirs, limestone potholes, and even a few dark caves!
