ROAR circulates petition to preserve school priority The River Oaks Association of Residents (ROAR) was encouraged by director Ralph Carnovale to work with residents in north River Oaks to ensure their public school remains a priority with the school board. "One of the difficulties is that some of the schools have not achieved 110% occupancy," Carnovale said, at ROAR‘s monthly meeting, "and until all of the schools achieve 110%, we cannot justify a new school." River Glen Public School â€" which was slated to serve the area â€" has been bumped from number one position on the priority list. He said a petition to promote the River Glen Public School, with at least 150 names, was being circulatâ€" ed in north River Oaks. He suggested ROAR contact the residents, who are organizing the petition, and offer their services and support. "If we don‘t get this school in ‘97," said Carnovale, "there will be 14 portables at Montclair which is unacceptable." Janice Caster â€" ROAR‘s newly elected education chair â€" will research the River Glen Public School issue in north River Oaks before ROAR takes a stand on the problem. ROAR‘s earlier plan to have a tree lighting ceremony has betn postponed, but the association is hopeful it will be able to promote this ceremony as a neighborhood tradition in 1995. Jim Richards told the directors that Fire Chief Wayne Gould supâ€" ports ROAR‘s proposal to plant a tree in front of Fire Station Number 4, which could be used for an annuâ€" al tree lighting ceremony. Area developers â€" the River Oaks Group â€" will supply and install a 12â€"foot Colorado Blue Spruce for the community in front of the fire station. ROAR‘s treasurer, Rob McIntosh, suggested planting the tree on Earth Day in the spring of 1995. Richards, who resigned as ROAR‘s president to run in the municipal elections, returns to fill the vacant viceâ€"president‘s position. ROAR‘s membership stands at 150 families. Residents can now write to ROAR directors at P.O. Box 86086, Oakville, Ontario L6B 5V6.
