Halton police were called about a missing man shortly after midnight and as a result attended Paler mo Public School at 2561 Valleyridge Dr., in the Bronte Road and Dundas Street area. The SIU said the Bur lington man was located in a portable on the school's property. They said tactical offi cers breached the portable's door and found the man in need of medical attention. The man was taken to hospital by ambulance and placed in the intensive care unit. He was pronounced dead at 6 p.m. Due to the SIU investiga tion, Halton police have de clined to comment on the incident. The SIU, an arm's length agency that investigates re ports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allega tions of sexual assault, has assigned three investiga tors and one forensic inves tigator to this incident. The police watchdog de clined to provide any fur ther details about the kind medical distress the man was in. They are also refusing to identify him at this time. Marnie Denton, commu nications services manager for the Halton District School Board, said since the incident took place in the night there was no disrup tion to classes at the school. The portable classroom where the incident oc curred has been closed and will not be used again dur ing this school year. "On Feb. 21, the school communicated directly to the families at the school to assure them there was no risk to students or public safety," she said. "The email also ex plained that the incident in volved one person and po lice were not looking for any suspects in their inves tigation."
