Pud by Steve Nease Dear Editor, Ontario congratulates Evan McEachran, Brianne Jenner and Cody Goloubef, who competed for Team Canada at the 23rd Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. This year, 70 athletes re presented Ontario and Canada on the world stage as they competed for Olym pic gold. Ontario athletes were part of the largest Ca nadian team ever sent to a Winter Olympics - compet ing in 10 of 14 sports. McEachran finished sixth in the men's ski slope style, Jenner was on the women's ice hockey team and won a silver medal, and Goloubef competed with Team Canada's men's hockey team Feb. 23, earn ing a third-place finish against Germany. I am extremely proud of our hometown athletes as they represented Oakville on the world stage. Each of our Olympians serve as ex- ceptional role models for young people and demon strate the spirit of athleti cism through their drive and dedication. Quest for Gold Through the Quest for Gold program and support to the Canadian Sport In stitute o f Ontario, the prov ince supports athletes with high performance training and programming, high performance calibre coaches and competitive opportunities. Since 2006, Quest for Gold has provided over $120 million in funding to support athletes, coaches and high performance pro gramming. Ontario also helps provincial and local sport organizations ensure that high performance ath letes have the tools they need to succeed at the high est levels of competition, including the Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games. Helping athletes com- pete is part of Ontario's plan to create fairness and opportunity during this pe riod of rapid economic change.
