NEWS Residents asked to contribute to Terry Fox exhibit A travelling exhibit ho nouring Terry Fox is com ing to Oakville and resi dents have the opportunity to showcase their own memorabilia celebrating the Canadian icon. The exhibit, Terry Fox - Running to the Heart of Canada, will be displayed at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex from April 12 to Sept. 9. Developed by the Cana dian Museum of History in partnership with Terry Fox's family, it features maps, photographs and newspaper imagery telling the story of the Marathon of Hope, which began April 12, 1980 when Fox started his cross-country run to raise money for cancer re search. "Terry Fox is a symbol of courage and hope for Cana dians across the country. His unwavering passion and determination contin ues to inspire and motivate us," said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. "We're very excited to share his courageous story and honour his legacy." The town is inviting res idents to contribute their own Terry Fox memorabil ia to accompany the exhib it such as photos, cards, let ters and memories of meet ing Fox or being part of the annual Terry Fox Run. Residents can make submissions by contacting Tonia Di Risio at pub- lic.art@oakville.ca or 905- 845-6601 ext. 4614. The submission dead line is March 23 and all con tributions will be returned when the exhibit closes in September. The fundraising cam paign - created by former Scotiabank president and Oakville Hospital Founda tion board member Bruce Birmingham - concludes with a hospital bed race in downtown Oakville. This year's race is set for May 6. A campaign launch will be held Tuesday, March 20, at 8 a.m. at Oakville Trafal gar Memorial Hospital in the John Oliver Auditorium. Representatives from all major banks, as well as Oak ville hospitalist Dr. Hanif Ja mal and Oakville Hospital Foundation CEO Mary Mc Pherson, will be on hand.
